“More Evidence of Spring” by Matthew D. Christianson

grapesAs I walked down MacDougal Street in SoHo this glorious afternoon, I came accross an apartment complex with a mess of grape vines coming out just below the street level. Fat brightly colored green veiny leaves soaked up the sun to help produce the plant’s eventual juicy ripe fruit. But today this plant was in the stage of growth known as “fruit set” in wine lingo and is where the vine’s flowers become tiny berries. I had noticed the vines from half a block away and was happy with the fact that they had started to grow grapes. Very cool to see up close the changing seasons of the grape vine and the beauty that it brings to us, particularly here in NYC!
