zombiesAs you might expect (but somehow I managed to forget) there is a long line a Economy Candy today. It’s time for sweet treat for the kiddys, however the line is full of adults mostly looking to find those nostalgic goodies from their childhood to pass on their youngsters. Located on the Lower East Side Economy Candy is an old-fashioned, family-owned candy store that sells hundreds of kinds of chocolates, candies, nuts, dried fruits; including halvah, sugar free candy and of course all the old time candy you had when you were a kid. Economy Candy has been showcasing their giant selection of sugary delights since 1937, which is amazing as the mark up on candy doesn’t seem like it would be enough to pay the high rent on 108 Rivington St. in the Lower East Side. Everyday at Economy Candy the masses crowd the entrance, but espeically at Halloween when craving the tempting morsels have all the ghouls, goblins, and zombies endlessly tap tap tap at their chamber door!

buckToday’s quote is: “Food for all is a necessity. Food should not be a merchandise, to be bought and sold as jewels are bought and sold by those who have the money to buy. Food is a human necessity, like water and air, it should be available.” — Pearl Buck (1892-1973) American Nobel Prize winning author.

It looks like the fame has finally gotten to Food Network Star Rachael Ray, as we catch her hanging out in Oscar the Grouch’s trashcan down on Sesame Street. Actually she appeared in two episodes of the popular children’s show Sesame Street in Episode 4139 to present the Word of the Day: pumpernickel and she also briefly appears in a star studded video “Get Up, Get Out.” Ok Rachael, anything for the kids, but I’m wondering if Oscar’s girlfriend Grungetta is getting jealous!
